Tamarindo is a long, almost white sandy beach within the protected area of Las Baulas, about 15 kilometres south of Huacas. This must-see resort in Guanacaste owes its name to the tamarind trees that border it. Famous for surfing or windsurfing, it is protected enough to be appreciated by the less adventurous swimmers. On either side of Tamarindo, the waves are even better for surfing, especially around the mouths of the rivers. As far as infrastructure is concerned, Tamarindo is certainly the most developed place in Costa Rica. In just a few years, the village has become a lively and, above all, a very commercial seaside town.
